Adopt a Dog

Looking for someone to cuddle with on cool Fall evenings? This handsome senior citizen is called Shadow. His expression seems to radiate a sweet confidence, as though he knows there's someone out there who wants to take him home and love him forever.

Shadow is one of many dogs at Five Acres Animal Shelter (formerly St. Charles Humane Society) in St. Charles, Missouri looking for a permanent and happy home. Check them out. You could discover just the furry face you've been waiting to find!

Indy woofed for me to remind everyone that October is Adopt a Shelter Dog Month. What a great time to rescue a pet! If, however, you can't adopt, consider helping your local shelter in other ways. They can use volunteers, pet food, toys, and towels. And to pay all those vet bills, monetary donations are always welcome.

We hope you and your furry best friends are having the same beautiful weather we are.  Low humidity, warm sunny days, and comfortably cool nights.

Don't you just love Fall?

Fall Weekend

We had another terrific time at the river. The weather couldn't have been more perfect: sunny warm days coupled with crisply cool nights.

Leaves of gold, red, and yellow fluttered to the ground with every breeze, looking like large and colorful splotches of rain. Mother Nature has been busy spinning her magic.

The critters weren't idle, either. We saw an assortment of frogs. Heard the howls of coyotes. Were buzzed by a beautiful young eagle.

The smell of burning leaves gave a bittersweet reminder that summer is truly gone.  And as with so many other things in life, we say good-bye, savoring our memories while we look forward to what lies ahead.  A newly born season has arrived.

So welcome back, Fall.  It's good getting to know you again.

Happy Weekend

To take my mind off rainy, dreary fall weather, I've posted a picture of a daylily from our garden. The photo was taken last spring and captures the season's beautiful blooms. The cheerful yellow color makes me smile.

Look closely and you'll see a beetle and some sort of long legged insect (no clue on identification, didn't even know it was there until I downloaded the picture) enjoying the daylily, too.

Here's hoping your weekend is sunny as this flower, and twice as nice.

Round 1

Yesterday we had the season's first true taste of fall weather. The breeze blew crisply and big puffy gray clouds filled the sky. I needed long sleeves to be comfortable, and even contemplated making a big pot of chili, my cold weather comfort food.

I took time to rearrange some flower pots on the back porch while Bogey watched me from "his" window. Bogey's greatest desire is to get outside. My primary goal is to prevent this from happening. I snapped this photo during our latest little battle of wills.

Doesn't he look like a sad kitty? Let me tell you, he meowed up a storm of complaints through the screen that kept him from joining me.

Thwarting Bogey from going where he wants to go is never an easy task.

But Mom the Meanie won this round.
