A Lesson for All

Here's my sweet boy, Indy. He's been right by my side since the day I got him nearly fifteen years ago. Then he was an eight week old fluffy ball of energy.

Today his vision and hearing are both practically gone, and his back legs have a pronounced wobble. But there's nothing wrong with his sense of smell. He's not too old to follow after a yummy treat...

and he's still fast enough to beat Bogey to the prize.

Indy can accomplish a goal without letting life's obstacles get in the way. Nothing's going to stop him. My little Indy demonstrates a perfect lesson for us all.

Happy New Year-2011

It makes sense to think about our life and what we can do to make it better. The concept of a fresh start in a brand new year is the perfect opportunity to ponder what we want to change. Many people have already made their list.

Of course, typical resolutions are getting in shape (we'll be bombarded with diet and fitness ads), getting organized (sales of plastic containers will go through the roof), and lining up finances (books on money management and tax programs abound). If the new year doesn't do anything else, it certainly helps the economy.

When I look at my list of resolutions from last year, I must admit I fell a little short. Okay, I didn't stick with any of them. But not to worry. Instead of beating myself up over 2010, I intend to resurrect my resolutions. I'll keep on trying in 2011. And isn't that what setting goals is all about?

Meanwhile, Indy and Bogey had no difficulty setting up their priorities.

Indy plans to:

1. Look for opportunities to eat more.
2. Spend daily time in Mom's lap.
3. Bark louder at squirrels and all other intruders.
4. Take more naps.

Bogey plans to:

1. Find better hiding places.
2. Find new ways to sneak outside.
3. Stand in the middle of everyone else's business at all times.
4. Take more naps.

Somehow, I think they'll both be pretty successful.

Happy New Year to all our Critter Alley readers! May 2011 bring happiness and blessings beyond belief!

A Friendly Suggestion

Cautious but comfortable together.

We can bicker. We can fight. We can behave as though our own point of view is all that counts. Isn't it most important in a disagreement to be the one who wins?

Never mind the repercussions. Just stay mired in the comfortable status quo instead.

What about a new approach? Work together with only the end result in mind. Forget about personal agendas. Focus on the goal. Achieve it. It can't be that hard for us to do.

After all, if dogs and cats can find some common ground, can't we?
