Book Blurb and the Truth

It's time for the Friday Book Blurb. Thanks to Lisa at Writing in the Buff for this week's photo prompt.  Here is my offering at 120 words:

The Red Flower

For as long as Cara Princeton could remember, Jason Kippler had been part of her life. Next door neighbor, school-mate, and friend, over the years their relationship bloomed into something much deeper. Each month Jason sent Cara a single red flower as a token of their passion. She knew their love would last forever.

Then Jason mysteriously disappears without a trace. Cara is confused. Logic tells her she's been deserted, but her heart simply won't agree.

When Cara finds a red flower carefully attached to the tree where she and Jason first kissed, she knows it must be a message.

But can she discover what happened to Jason? And is she strong enough to handle the events that will change her life forever?

******

And now on to other business. I loved your guesses on my truth or lie post. Now it's time for me to 'fess up.

1. True! Indy has visited the KSDK television studios to help advertise events for the St Charles Humane Society on multiple occasions. On his first visit, weatherman Mike Roberts picked him up thinking it would make a  cuddly-cute picture while he talked weather. Four month old Indy had other ideas. He wriggled and squirmed so violently that Mike had to put him down with a decidedly unelegant thump, in order to give his report.

2. False! I wanted a horse so badly that I nagged my parents about it constantly. My dad's reply was always the same, "Where you gonna keep a horse...in the garage?"

3. True! I spent a month at my best friend's place in Dallas, Texas. We hung out with real cowboys, part of a group called the Cow Town Posse. I got to ride a very valuable (and beautiful) barrel racer. It was the highlight of my fourteen-year-old summer!

4. True! When I was quite young, I begged for a dog. With a constant "No" ringing in my ears, I did the next best thing and created one. My invisible pup was quite well behaved and never once had a potty accident.

5. True! I can't explain why, but the morning after a terrible thunderstorm (lightening and thunder galore--the kind that makes you cover up your head and pray), the fish had become surface floaters. Household grown-ups informed me that the lightening must have gotten them. The poor things were flushed into a swirling and swift burial at sea.

There you are. Four truths and a lie.

Remember, I've passed on this honor and would love to see someone else take on the challenge.

How about you?

The Award of Untruth

Many thanks to Lisa over at Writing in the Buff. She has been kind enough to send me this prestigious award designed specifically for writers of all things fictional...better known as the Liars Club.

My task is to tell four truths and one lie about myself. You, dear readers, are given the job of deciding which statements are truth, and which one is the fib. Here goes:

1. One of my dogs appeared on television four times, once while held in the arms of a well known local weather forecaster. The weatherman's efforts to report on upcoming conditions were utterly foiled due to losing the ensuing wrestling match with my squirming, uncooperative pooch.

2. My parents bought me a horse for my tenth birthday. He and I logged more than 1,000 miles of trail riding together before I went away to college and had to sell him.

3. And speaking of horses, I once got to ride with the Cow Town Posse in Texas, running a barrel race on a rodeo horse valued at over $10,000.

4. My very first dog was imaginary. He lived under the kitchen table and was partial to scraps sneakily delivered to him straight from my plate.

5. I had two goldfish who died during a thunderstorm. Having the bowl close to a window during a highly charged electrical event is apparently fatal to goldfish health.

There you are! My four truths and a lie, all critter-related, of course. So let's see how good I am at writing fiction. Do you know which statement is a fib and which are the truth? All will be revealed in a few days.

Now I must pass along this task to four other blogs. Since that job is even more difficult than the original challenge, I have chosen to select the first four blogs on my Blog Roll List for this honor. However, that will be tricky to determine since the order of the list literally changes from minute to minute.

Hey, fiction is all about surprises, isn't it?

Book Cover Meme

Writers are so creative...and fun, too!

Lisa, over at Writing in the Buff has created a meme you're sure to enjoy. Each Friday she challenges writers to create a back cover blurb for a faux book cover. The blurb must be 150 words or less. Hop over and give it a try. Here's my contribution at seventy-three words:

Title: The Eyes Have It

When local librarian David Booker is murdered, parliamentarian expert and part-time sleuth Katrina J'anal, knows something is definitely out of order. Her prime suspect, man-about-town Clint Hunkington, refuses to cooperate with Kat's investigation. She discovers him breaking into the scene of the crime, and Kat realizes he's hiding something that's bound to propel them both into perils far beyond amending a debatable motion. What is Clint's secret?

And is he a man Kat can love...or a killer?
