Cute as Can Be

If you're having kind of a lousy day, you might want to hop over to the San Diego Zoo website. Your heart will melt when you check out the progress of their newest darling...a baby Giant Panda. Awwww, who can resist that face?

See what's happening on the zoo's live Panda-cam. I just looked and the little one is lying all alone, resembling a black and white hamster sleeping in the middle of a large nest. Mama must be taking a well-deserved break. We can all relate to that, can't we ladies?

If you click on the site's "Vote Now" button you can help choose the new baby's name.

Now that you've gotten an adorable critter fix, don't you feel much, much better?

I thought so. You're welcome!

Name Game-One Day Late

We're late to the Name Game party due to being out of town, but decided to participate anyway.

Thanks to Frankie for the suggestion!

Indy's growing lots of gray hair now, but when he came to live with us he was black as India ink and into just about everything. I thought about naming him India for his black-as-night coat, but my husband had a better suggestion.  For such an adventurous pup, what better name than Mr. Indiana Bones? Perfect!

This one was a no-brainer. A cool cat requires a cool namesake. Could there have been a more laid back, cool, collected actor than Humphrey Bogart? Not that I can think of, anyway. Thus our bad-boy cool cat became Bogey, without the signature cigarette.

Some names come easy, some require a lot of contemplation.  Yet we all reach the same conclusion.

The perfect name for our furred, finned, or feathered friends!

P.S. Remember the Six Word Story contest!

What's In a Name?

Names, anyone?

The St. Louis Post Dispatch did a story on pet names today. I looked at their website edition and found a handy dandy tool that tracks names registered for pet licenses in this area between 2001 and 2007. The database contains about 150,000 names.

The cool part of this tool is that you can look up the top names, total names, or enter your own pet's name to see where it ranks in the metro area.

For example, I found the top 5 dog names to be: Max, Bailey, Buddy, Maggie, and Molly.

The top 5 cat names were Tiger, Tigger, Smokey, Kitty, and Max.

My critter names didn't even make the top 100. Indy came in at 359th, while Bogey's name fell even lower at 560th. Hey, don't worry, fur kids, that makes you even more "special" than you've already proven to be!

Have fun checking out your pet's name.

And by the way, this just might help you find the perfect moniker for that critter character in your next story!
