Happy Earth Day 2010

It's hard to believe that today is the 40th anniversary of Earth Day. It's even harder to believe that I participated in the very first Earth Day back in 1970. We've come a long way since then, but there is still much to do.

Sometimes, it's the little things that make a difference. For example:

We can pick up litter...

We can recycle...

We can conserve water...

We can go green...

And we can love the plants. We can love the animals. We can love the earth.

What are you doing to protect our planet?

These photos and captions should be posted on billboards. They are so cute and so true. We recycle, and my husband has replaced the light bulbs with efficient less energy users. The only problem is, it takes a full minute to illuminate the kitchen.

We are using less and waiting longer. So many of us want instant gratification. For instance, most cleaners (if you read the directions, who does that?) don't say spray and wipe, they say spray and wait. And by doing this we use less. And by using less we save some "green" and create less trash.

Hi Pat,
Great photos and suggestions. As you know, St. Peters is big on recycling and we fill our blue bags each week--one for paper products, the other for plastic and glass.
Also, on my blog today I've posted several ways I recycle as a writer.

Great photos and captions! I'm sick of using chemicals for cleaning, so this past year I've been concocting my own mixture of baking soda and Dr. Bronner's liquid soap (peppermint) to clean the showers and sinks. It works and smells great!

Happy Earth Day! We DO need to take care as much as possible. We recycle, and I try not to use aresal(SP) hairsprays, etc. Grammy from Corgi Country

Glad to see that Indy and Bogey are doing their part to protect our planet! Cute pics! I recycle everything I can find a place to recycle it, use paper towels sparingly (better to wash cuptowels), and, as my chemical cleaners get used up, I'm replacing them with natural products. The other day I used a solution of vinegar and water in a spray bottle to clean the outside of my appliances and my glass shower doors--worked like a charm, albeit a bit 'stinky'. And, I use cloth shopping bags so that I don't end up with piles of plastic ones.

Lovely pictures. When I first came to America (California) in 1980 it was before recycling was popular but I used everything at least twice. I used the styrofoam containers from McDonalds as plant saucers, picked oranges from the tree in the garden and made marmarlade, orange juice, orange cakes. People just shrugged and said "She's English" I still compost, and use whatever I can more than once.
