Have A Cuppa Hot Chocolate

Baby, it's cold outside!

Sub-freezing temperatures have given us consecutive frosty days and frigid nights. These are the days that prompt us to bundle up in so many layers that, like Ralphie's little brother, we almost can't put our arms down.

When I stand in my warm house and peek out the window, admittedly it looks pretty. The morning swirls of ice on roofs and on the standing grass suggest the potential winter wonderland that is just around the corner.

Of course, the real eye-opener is when I go outside.

No leisurely strolls for me. I race from building to car and back again with my breath puffing in smoky clouds around my head. These are the days I forego the calories that can be burned by parking in a space at the end of the lot. I'm definitely a winter wimp.

With Indy's short-short haircut, he's not enjoying a visit outside, either. I push him out the door to do his business, and when he comes back inside he's shaking harder than a second hand washing machine. I brought out his lovely black sweater. Hey, he doesn't wear it for looks. He wears it for warmth.

This icy weather poses a whole new set of problems for pups. Check out this ASPCA link on cold weather tips as a reminder on how to keep your pet safe.  And thanks to my friend, Marty, for the suggestion on posting holiday safety tips for pets. This Pet Education link can help you keep the holidays happy for all.

Stay warm!

I definately don't miss the cold! Pity the poor dogs with clueless owners that leave them outside. Even though we don;t have the frigid temps, there are a lot of ignorant people here that think dogs belong outside 24/7.

Yum, put a big splash of Peppermint Schnapps in my hot chocolate, would ya?
And thanks for the tips!

We love those beautiful scenes of snow but to think that it is that cold...we rather not have winter! Should we say we are lucky that we have summer all year round? Hope you guys have enough warmth in your house.

Have a Merry Christmas!

Thanks for the links/tips. My Lab pups are exhilarated by the cold though they don't like to stay out in it for long. I feel for my daughters little mini Dachshunds---they shiver and shake like crazy. As you say, sweaters for some pups are necessary, not fru-fru. I bet Indy thinks you're out of your mind sending him outdoors! :)

Thanks for the links.

I had to get stuck with an all-weather dog that doesn't notice the cold so it is outside on the regular for me, unfortunately. Good thing I can always borrow my husband's mukluks.

Next time I'm getting a chihuahua.

Second hand washing machine, lol - loves it!
We have had snow for 2 weeks now and at the back of my mind overshadowing the fun and prettiness of it all is the thought of any animals who are outside. I hope everything has shelter for this type of weather.

I am not thrilled with the cold. I notice that my people don't go outthere to pee!

Lovely to look at when you're warm and cozy inside. We have a little chill in the air but that's about it. We've had a very warm December so far.

Thanks for the tips and reminders. I stay close to the door when I let my dog out this time of year, because I know he'll be out an average of about 2 minutes!

Darn that's a cold looking picture! I'm a winter wimp too! I just couldn't take it!!! (We're hoping for 80 today!)

I think I'm the only one who doesn't like the cold here....all the pups will go out in it, although I do make Moxie wear a sweatshirt when it's bitter cold. She pretends she doesn't want it on, but once she's out I think she's glad she has it!
LOVE the Ralphie reference ;-)
