Here's our backyard winter wonderland, complete with a path carefully swept clear so Indy doesn't have to be snowbound while taking a potty break. Now is that service, or what?
This little bird made his way on to our screened porch, thanks to the opening left in the door for Indy's convenience. With the door propped open, our little guest soon flew back outside, much to the consternation of Bogey, who had been salivating over the thought of a feathery brunch treat. Plans foiled, he threw me a dirty look and stalked away. It's undoubtedly a lucky thing that I couldn't read his mind.
Brrrrr. All I can say is somebody wasn't looking at the calendar. It's not officially winter yet, but you wouldn't know it by the view or the temperature. The wind is whipping us unmercifully with a truly icy blast that stings any body part not abundantly covered. These are the kind of days that make me happy for the excess fat I've been carrying around. Skinny people may look good, but they chill much more quickly without the extra insulation. Ha! I knew eating all those desserts at Thanksgiving had a worthy purpose.
But still I am concerned. Could the weather be a sign that we're in for a rough time this winter? Or is it simply a little taste of Siberia sent to remind us of how lucky we usually are in the Midwest?
Only time will tell. Meanwhile I'm going to turn on the heating pad and snuggle under the covers while I think warm thoughts. Hope you can do the same!

After the long, sticky summer we had, I'm glad to be cold for a bit!
Love the snow - looks so pretty and I miss it!
It looks like heaven to me!

You have a beautiful winter wonderland there! Wonder which is better, the cold or the hot. We have hot weather all year round which make snuggling rather uncomfortable.
Pat,
I am right there with you shivering my extra padding. I keep telling myself, 14 weeks. I usually start my countdown to spring on Jan 1st, but we got slammed with this deep freeze. I hope we don't get much snow and ice because the road crews sure slacked off due to budget cuts.
Well MY wooly bear caterpillars said... EARLY Bad Winter... Mild fur Jan and Feb and Early March.. then some more Yucky stuffs right at the end.
It is -34 wind chill where my Wives live. BRRRRRRRRRRRR
I want Spring... how about You?
I've planted garlic all around the borders of they yard. I know it works for vampires and werewolves. I hope it will keep the cold away, too!
word verification terabl, it think it fits
Didn't use a heating pad, but last night was a three-quilter at our house.
Stay warm,
Donna V.

I'm glad to see someone else shovels their yard for their dog. I was out in 8 degree temps yesterday making an area so the dogs wouldn't have to wade through deep snow on their rounds. At least the sun was out so it wasn't so bad. But burrrrrrr! It's way too early to be below 10 degrees.
Ha, I had to do bus duty this morning stand out in the ONE degree weather and the chilling wind for 20 minutes and I forgot my hat to boot!
I spend so much time chastising the kids for not dressing properly for the weather. Guess I should take my own advice.
Stay warm under those covers Pat. And you are a sweet heart for sweeping a path for Indy.
Perhaps you have gotten the winter weather we usually get on the east coast because so far, we haven't had winter at all yet. I was looking at photos I took last year and we had tons of snow at this time. We must have given it to you all this round.
Sorry about that. But it does make for a lovely picture!
All that snow looks gorgeous! I havent been in the snow as of yet..hopefully one day.
We are currently sweltering in the summer sun, and it's going to get hotter! You have a very nice page here. I'm going to follow!

Even we have had an early winter with degress around -10C for a month and not to forget the snow. The best thing is that it will be a white Christmas for all of Sweden.
We're gettin the big BRRR in Florida too :( Froze last night. Poor planties. Hope their blankets kept them alive. Thank goodness I get to sleep inside! Went out to take care of business this mornin. Came back in and my tail was stiff. Good thing I'm the only dog here or someone might have chomped it thinkin it was a bully stick :O

Wow, it looks beautiful there. Pity it cant look like that without the cold bit, lol.
We are at the stage of filthy slush at the moment, ugh.

It's cold for sure, but that makes baking more fun! And yeah, tomorrow I don't have to leave the house!

As usual, love your picture! Those little juncos are so sweet, especially when they puff up into little round feather balls. I think mother nature is telling us that we ALL need to be a little rounder this time of year.
