Recall

It's all over the news that a certain company has recalled ground turkey due to reports of salmonella poisoning. And what, of course, do I use when I cook Indy's food? Ground turkey.

I cooked for him last Friday and can't for the life of me remember if I bought the "wrong" brand of turkey.
I read somewhere that thorough cooking kills salmonella, and the messy mushy mix I make for him typically boils for close to 30 minutes. He's been eating the food since Saturday with no signs of distress, so I'm assuming we're safe.

What the heck is a consumer supposed to do if they can't recall if the recall affects them?

Guess we all better start taking a picture of our products!

Ah! The demon Salmonella!
Mommy made our doggy's dinner from ground turkey too!!! So she looked it up.
If yous cook the meat well then it kills the bacterias. It is generally undercooked meat that causes the problem.

I use ground turkey too, and have a lot in the freezer, not in it's original pkg, so who knows what it was!

Hi Y'all,

What's a consumer to do? I guess do what some friends of ours do...only they do it with chickens...raise their own for eggs and to eat...free range chickens...guess y'all would have free range turkeys. :)

Y'all come by now,

I would think your pooch would be sick by now - I think you probably cooked the bad stuff out of it, that is if you had the bad batch.

So glad to hear he's not sick! Or you either for having handled the raw meat!

Because of our different systems, people are more likely to get sick from salmonella than dogs but there's also the danger of kitchen areas and utensils getting contaminated. The clean-up is as important as the cooking.
