Father's Day 2012
I will forever associate the death of Beatle John Lennon with my dad. I still remember sitting with co-workers the morning after the news came out about the former Beatle. Our voices were pinched with the shock over what had happened. I had no inkling that less than a few hours later, a nurse would call to say I needed to respond to the hospital immediately. She didn't tell me why.
My dad had died of a heart attack. He was only 46.
A lot of Father's Days have come and gone since December 9, 1980. Yet it seems like only a wisp of time ago that I saw him doing his favorite thing...barbecuing pork steaks for a family gathering. He'd cook them in a sauce so luscious we'd ignore napkins and lick our fingers clean. We didn't want to waste a bit of the tangy and succulent flavor. Not even a downpour stopped Dad from his creation. I supposed you could call him a barbecue artist...a true grill master.
To this day, Hubby uses the same heavy-duty barbecue tongs that belonged to my dad. So I suppose in a way, Dad's with us every time the charcoal (never propane!) is fired up.
Hubby and I both still miss him.
Happy Father's Day to all. If your dad is with you, take time to treasure him. If not, treasure those memories!

Bittersweet, but the images are powerful. Nowhere do people grill pork steaks, but in St. Louis.
That is too young to lose your Dad - I'm sorry for you. My husband and I have grieved through the loss of 3 of our 4 parents in the last 6 years...... So we are familiar with the sheer awfulness of it.
Keep the happy memories close.

What a deeply moving post. I'm so sorry to hear you lost your dad so young. Nice tribute, though.
Your dad was so young when you lost him, what a shock it must have been. I was only 22 when I lost my dad and I still miss him.
It is lovely to remember them on special days like this though, isn't it.
Hugs,Lynne x
