Happy New Year 2013
In today's world most people rely on electronic calendars that are thoughtfully provided on every cell phone and computer in existence. Not me. I always march out the day after Christmas to pick up my bargain half-price paper calendar. Then I take it home and flip through its pristine pages. Each one looks fresh as a newly wrapped gift under the Christmas tree...full of possibilities.
I pick up my pen and begin the process of transferring important dates from my old calendar to the new one. Reading last year's scribbled notes is a lot like reading a journal. Remember that surprise birthday party? What a blast. This year we'll be married how many years? Wow. Our son's wedding. Awww! Another trip to Rockbridge. Good times. A surprise marriage proposal for our daughter. Hooray! Doctor appointments. Ugh, guess it's time to schedule that check-up (yes and one for Indy and Bogey, too). H'mmm. A few publishing contracts. Maybe I can improve on that number next year.
Though there were some tough times in 2012, it really was a wonderful year. We've been blessed. As I begin to write on my new crisp clean pages, I say a little prayer that this calendar will soon be filled with many more events that are destined to make me smile.
And I wish the same for your calendar. Happy New Year from all of us at Critter Alley!

We use regular calendars at our house, too. Mike says that means we finally have something in common with the Mayans: we all need a new one!
Happy New Year to you, too!

Happy new year. Hope your calendar has lots of pictures of dogs on it. Dog calendars are the best.
Pat this was such an uplifting post. I read one a few minutes ago that had me sobbing. Happy New year. I too keep a calendar on my desk.
May the best of this year be the worst of next!

Happy new year to all the Critters!
This was a wonderful post, Pat. It reminded me that--like the pages of a calendar--the next year is a blank page. It is up to us to fill it with good things.
Happy New Year.
I go through the same ritual every year! Hope all 365 days are wonderful for you this year.
I love a new calendar too. The smell of fresh pages and pristine pictures before they become creased and dog-eared.
2012 was an amazing year for me as my twin grandchildren were born in March - they, along with their big sister, somehow make everything else seem less important.
Hope 2013 is wonderful for you.
Ann
Love this post...and my paper calendar too!
Happy New Year to you all!
I do the same thing with a paper calendar!
