Never mind appointing a cabinet and creating a plan to save the economy. What I really want to know is this. What dog will the Obama family choose?
As Harry Truman once wrote, "If you want a friend in Washington, buy a dog." Sounds like pretty darn good advice to me.
With that in mind, I came up with a few suggestions as the presidential dog "vetting" process continues.
What about a border collie to nip the heels of rebellious Republicans?
Perhaps a bloodhound to sniff out any hint of cabinet corruption?
Or a terrier to control a rat wearing congressional clothing?
Recent rumblings indicate the future first family is leaning toward adopting a shelter dog, for which I give them a fist bump and two thumbs up. And hopefully we'll have answers soon, so stay tuned.
Meanwhile, there's one thing of which we can be certain. A pet in the White House is a time-honored tradition. The list of furred, finned, and feathered former presidential pets is incredible and fascinating, especially in the early years.

Yes, I too heard that the Obamas were keen to adopt a rescue dog, although their daughter's allergies may prove problematic.
Our dalmatian, Barkley is a rescue dog and easily the best dog either of us have ever had.
Interesting observations! Maybe that's the way to go! Adopt a pet for the president, how's that for the new catch phrase? Make sure he or she is spayed or neutered (sorry Bob Barker, just had to borrow the words!) Love your blog!
