Macho Cat

Last week I introduced the new grand-dog, Brady. As mentioned in my Friday post, Bogey is not at all sure he likes the new kid on the block. In fact, he rather nicely demonstrated an interesting cat behavior.

When alarmed or angry, a cat's back hunches and he puffs out his hair and tail in an effort to look bigger and scarier than the other guy. I can't describe the exact mechanism, but it's similar to when we get goose bumps and the hair on our arms stands up. Trust me when I say his tail had to have plumped up to three times normal size.

If he was a black cat, wouldn't he look just perfect for Halloween?

I'm sure Brady and Bogey will come to a truce eventually, but until we arrive at the peaceable kingdom, I plan to have a referee present at all times.

Oh, my, Bogey does look ferocious! (Also quite territorial and well-cared for. As the house elf would say, "His stripes are very nice.")
A referee is probably a good idea. I saw a cat up for adoption by a rescue group yesterday and would consider taking her if it weren't for Lady--who would probably be quite jealous.
