Sing Along

Have you ever thought about what talent it takes to write song lyrics? The words must tell a story or create a message, yet still fit beautifully with the music. While there are songwriters who do double duty as lyricists, there have also been some awesome collaborations, such as with Rodgers and Hammerstein. They arguably were among the best at creating musicals like one of my all time favs, Oklahoma.

Since this is still a Critter Alley blog, I decided to search for songs that include an animal name in the title. After all, whether you write love songs or the blues, I'll bet that critters have a tendency to make an appearance. One list I found included no less than 182 songs including such hits as: Muskrat Love, Nashville Cats, The Lion Sleeps Tonight, Spiders and Snakes, Who Let the Dogs Out, and An Octopus's Garden.

That's quite a bit of critter variety!

So here's a salute to those who write music and lyrics. Thanks for giving us a tune to hum and words to remember.

Oh, wow, do I remember "The Lion Sleeps Tonight"! Haven't heard it in ages!

Rodgers and Hammerstein were examples of real genius. They left behind such a legacy of musical joy!
