A Belated National Dog Day Salute

Treats for Indy!

While sniffing the internet, my canine pal, Indy, discovered that Critter Alley failed to recognize an important day yesterday...National Dog Day was August 26.

The day was established as a way to celebrate the close connection between people and their dogs. It's also meant to encourage people to adopt from shelters and protect animals in need.

So please give a thought today to critters that have been abandoned, neglected, or abused. To those who watch with hopeful eyes each time a person steps inside an animal shelter. As tails tentatively wag, you can almost read their thoughts:

"Is this the one? Will I finally go home?"

May they all be gifted with the loving families they deserve.

Meanwhile, I apologize for this grievous omission, and ask you to give your pup an extra-special day. I know my work is cut out for me.

Indy is highly offended. It'll take a lot of extra dog treats today to make amends.

Psst, Indy . . .I'd sue. . .

On second thought, you might come out better if you just sit and look pitiful and neglected. . .

Everyday is Dog Day around here. Lady insists on it!

It is right and proper that our four-footed friends have a special day. I cannot imagine life without our pooch!
