Flu Season...For Dogs
Discovery Channel reporter, Jennifer Viegas, writes that a canine flu known as the
H3N8 virus is spreading. Symptoms include fever, lethargy, loss of appetite, and respiratory infection. The virus apparently is capable of species jump, having originated in horses, so the possibility exists that humans could also be impacted.
As with any illness, quarters such as shelters and boarding kennels can cause rapid spread of disease. Therefore special caution is urged in such environments. There is a vaccine available, so consult your veterinarian on whether your dog is a candidate.
Gosh, another worry. And people "flu season" hasn't even yet begun!

Thanks for the heads up! I'll definitely ask when Lady goes to board in October while I'm away at the writing conference. Don't want my (big) baby girl getting sick!
I don't think it will be an issue for Barkley as he doesn't go to kennels at all and rarely mixes with other dogs either. Poor baby has had enough meds lately!
