Hooray for Today!
You know how sometimes you just plug away but nothing seems to really click, and you start to wonder, why the heck am I doing this, and then all of a sudden out of nowhere you get an email that makes you holler
"Hooray, that's awesome!" in the middle of your day, which startles your co-workers in the adjoining cubicles because they certainly don't expect to hear anything like that at the office, so you apologize in a squeaky little-girl voice as you explain you just got notified about winning second place in a contest plus you're getting a story published, which is so exciting you could almost pee your pants.
Well, that was my life today.
Whispering Prairie Press awarded my essay, "A Pair of Good Boots", second place in a writing competition. I won $50 and publication in the next issue of their literary magazine, "Kansas City Voices". What a surprise, especially when the first paragraph of the email sounded like the old, thanks for entering our contest, but...
I'm now on Cloud 10 (one step above Cloud 9).
Have you gotten any news lately that made your day?

I know what you mean. There's nothing quite like that thrill of acceptance. Congrats!!
Pat--I got news that a short story of mine is still "under consideration" by the editors of Bayou, a New Orleans literary magazine.
However, I think "under consideration" really means, "We haven't read it yet...it's buried under a pile of other stuff."
We'll see.
Congratulations. You should have jumped on top of your desk and shouted.
Whoop Hoooo! Congratulations Pat!!!
