Moms, Snakes, and Creativity

Yesterday I received notification that my story, An Open Minded Mom, will appear in NYBM on Being a Mom, due for release April 8. It's about what happens at our house when my son asks to get a python (yikes!) as a pet. Several of my writer gal pals' stories will also be included. How cool is that?

The NYMB series of books are sassy, funny, and highly entertaining. If you've never read them, I encourage you to check out the Publishing Syndicate for information on what titles are available for purchase. As a bonus, they're always looking for new stories. Click on the Submit Stories for Not Your Mother's Book tab to find out submission requirements and how to send them your story.

I've been thinking lately that I really need to do more things that nurture my creative side. Scrubbing toilets while contemplating new story ideas just isn't cutting it anymore. I considered my interests and wrote out a wish list which I politely handed to Hubby. What would he select? Painting? Photography? Wood carving?

Ta-da! Hubby gave me a keyboard for Christmas! It does all sorts of nifty things, but mostly I keep it on "piano" mode trying to learn what notes correspond to what keys. It's slow going as I practice, practice, practice. No one even has to nag me to do it (so far anyway).

Unfortunately, this has led to a demand request from Indy and Bogey. They've put together a wish list, too:

Thanks for the support, guys.

Pat--Yah! I think we could get an incredible book signing together with all the St. Louis writers.

Congratulations. And I bow down to you when it comes to you learning music. Keep it up (and don't listen to your four-legged music critics--they think eating poop and licking their butt is fun).

LOL the ear plugs. We'd need those if our peeps tried to sing. Have a serene Sunday and get some big easy in today.
Best wishes Molly

How cool that you'll tackle a new creative skill.

Great news about your story! Is it fiction or based on "Monty"?

Hubby picked a cool gift. I hope some day you will be playing the organ at Busch Stadium.

Congrats on the story, and how soon do you think you'll be able to write a NYMB theme song?

ha ha, Ryker actually loves it when my husband plays guitar and drums. The cats, not so much!

Lol. I have the same response when I practice my scales.

Hooray for you on your publication credit and also for learning piano. I signed up in college but the class was cancelled due to lack of interest/students. My four year old granddaughter went to the mall to take lessons from a music store and picked it up right away. She could play by ear. Play on! Write on!

Congrats, your bookshelf must be overflowing with all your published works. Learning the piano has long been on my list of things I want to accomplish. So much easier now you can get a keyboard and not have to use half the house to fit in a piano. Keep us apprised of your progress.
