We All Make a Few Adjustments

Life is very different at our house these days. Winston has become the center of attention. The reason is primarily because he is like Dennis the four-legged Menace. We always seem to have trouble.

Bogey is curious but mostly annoyed by our new family member.

Really, Mom?

Mr. Bogey, won't you please be my friend?

A friend does not put his nose under my tail!

By the way, Mousie is mine. Keep your paws off.

That's right. Go ahead and chew up Mom's shoes but leave my toys alone.

And so it goes.

So what to do?

Nobody wants to be my friend.

When I see that sad little face, I feel guilty and get down on the floor to play. And let me tell you, it's time consuming to be a puppy's only playmate.

Once bedtime arrives, I shake my head. How the heck does an entire day slip by with absolutely nothing accomplished?

I've decided that we need to sign up for puppy class. Winston would have so much fun if he could romp with other puppies and burn off some energy. He might actually become tired and sleep. And I might have a few hours to get something done.

Sounds like a win-win to me. Suggestions, anyone?

I think the answer might be to get another puppy or kitten. Oh, "no" you say? Okay, then puppy day care will give him a place to romp and dreams in which to recapture the romping. You will see his little paws going even when he's asleep. He is so cute. We got a puppy when our dog was s senior. He was a pain in the butt for her literally, yanking on her shank fur, sniffing her rear end. The indignities she suffered.

How about hooking up with a friend who has a youngish-smaller dog. You two could sit over a cup of coffee (or a glass of wine) and let them play together. That might wear out Winston, giving you 13 minutes to yourself until he recharges his battery.

Or find a dog park that has one part for big dogs and one for small dogs?

I feel for you, Pat. They're more exhausting than babies, but they do grow up so quickly, so savor it (and sigh over it) while you still can.

So cute! But a good idea to give him some things to do. Have you started any at home training whilst you wait for classes. That always tires them out a lot.

We all know what you are thinking Bogey, lol.
Poor little Winston, there's only one thing for it - get him a young dog and then maybe you can have 5 minutes to do your own thing.
The doggie day care sounds like a very good idea.

Oh Bogey you are a cutie! Our Angel Greta was a wild child and I am thankful that Mabel has not been as "naughty" in her puppyhood!

What a cutie. Puppies have so very much energy. I think a puppy daycare might be a good idea - try it at least.

Winston is adorable. I think finding a playmate is a great idea. With kittens I lie to get two but with puppies not so sure. A small dog dog-park or daycare might be a good answer.

Puppy playtime is a great idea. We ran into a similar situation with my daughter's puppy, Ruby. Our two older cats and two older dogs weren't amused by the new family member. Ruby has since moved out with my daughter, but it was rough there for a bit. I felt bad for Ruby because she just wanted to play. She's bigger than Winston---a pit mix, about 45 pounds---so her size was discouraging to the other animals, especially the cats. Ruby is a sweetie. Not aggressive, just playful. But the oldies would have none of it! I don't have a solution for you, but your idea sounds like a good one.

I've often thought there should be a place where people can go to receive "puppy therapy." They can play with Winston, and you don't have to charge them a lot. He's adorable! It would be quite a bargain.

Puppies are hard work. So happy I adopt the older ones... Mabel was my only puppy....and that was enough!
