Happy Father's Day
Photo by I Na Aina E
In the animal world, it's not only the mothers who tend babies. Take the flamingo for example...and no, I don't mean the funny plastic ones that "flock" on people's lawns.
Flamingo moms and dads share equally in tending the nest and feeding hatchlings. The male is even capable of producing the same "milk" as females do for their young. You can't get much more involved in baby rearing than that, can you?
And it does take a lot of feeding for these babies to grow into the tall beautiful birds they become. Though born gray, they will turn that famous pink color by getting plenty of beta carotene in their diet.
So here's a big Father's Day salute to the hard working dads of the world... both human and animal. May your day be delightful!

Hi Pat,
What a thoughtful post.
Love the flamingos, too.

I love the vivid colour of the Flamingos and remember them well from a trip to Florida many years ago. We have them at our local zoo, Chester, which is famous for the excellent conditions in which all their creatures live. We have a lovely bird sanctuary near here called Martin Mere too.
